Kriegsmarine badges were granted in recognition of wartime service under the most difficult
of circumstances, often against a vastly superior enemy. Today they are highly sought
after collectibles. Check back for additions.
The U-Boat badge and associated insignia are extremely scarce, but conterfeits abound.
The Crest of U-Flotilla 1, an unofficial emblem worn on the cap, as seen
in the photo of Herbert Werner U-593 who also wears the laughing sawfish emblem.
The "Holzauge" pin is the talisman of U-558 and refers to a German expression
meaning "Be Alert!"
The small combatant clasp was designed late in the war for crewmen of midget submarines.
Only a handful were issued.
